Report on the death of P.C. A. 126 Ernest Coucher.
P.C. Goucher was admitted into the Government Civil Hospital on March 8th., 1915, at 2.10 p.m. from Sheungshui Police Station, suffering from injuries inflicted by a tiger.
History. While out with another European Constable tracking a tiger in the New Territory they came upon it concealed in a bush. The tiger was frightened by a stone thrown into the bush and sprang on him, but he was able to fire off both barrele of a shot-gun and wound the beast. However, the tiger knocked him down, jumped on him and mauled him, and was frightened away by the other Constable firing off a revolver at him. Patient was

to the Police Station and soon after was attended by the Medical Officer, New Territory, who cleaned and bandaged the wounds and sent him on to Hospital.
On Admission. He was suffering much from shock,
and there had been a fair amount of oozing from the wounds. He was unable to keep down any nourishment, and was suffering from much pain, for which he was given injections of morphine.

He had the following injuries:-
Both bones of left forearm were broken in three places - above wrist, a little above that and below the elbow. There were
with lacerated wounds in connection/the sites of the break.

In the back about level of lat. lumbar spine there was
a large lacerated wound ploughing up the mass of vertebral muscles.
4. There were lacerations on left side of abdomen and
chest, extension but not deep.

A small circular wound on left of 10th. dorsal spine which tracked up to left of neck. This was superficial and no foreign body could be felt.
Under an anaesthetic all these wounds were again cleansed, thoroughly swabbed with pure carbolic acid, and the forearm put into a weak Cyllin bath and continuously irritated.
